Born on October 24, 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia, Monica has won one Grammy and four Billboard Music Awards. Her first two albums, Miss Thang in 1995 (released when she was 14 years old), and The Boy Is Mine in 1998, were both certified triple platinum. She also has a double platinum song ("The Boy is Mine" with Brandy), and six additional platinum singles. Whitney Houston was her mentor and they remained good friends until Houston's death in 2012.  

Monica has achieved six number one hits on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and she was the first artist to top the chart in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. Usher, Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz, Tyrese, Wyclef Jean, and Keyshia Cole are among the many artists who have recorded with Monica.

1998 - "The Boy is Mine" with Brandy

"The Boy Is Mine" by Monica and Brandy was certified triple platinum and was the best selling single of 1998. In 1999, they won Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "The Boy Is Mine" at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards. The song was also nominated for Record of the Year. The duo also received three Billboard Music Awards in 1998: Hot 100 Sales Single of Year, R&B Sales Single of the Year, and Top Dance Maxi-Single. "The Boy Is Mine" remained at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen consecutive weeks, and was ranked the number eight song of the decade (1990-1999).

1998 - "The First Night"

Following "The Boy Is Mine," "The First Night" was Monica's second single to reach the top of both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts. From The Boy Is Mine album, the platinum single stayed at number one for six weeks on both charts in 1998.

Monica was 14 years old when she released her debut single "Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)" in 1995. The song was certified platinum, hitting the top of the Billboard R&B chart and peaking at number two on the Hot 100. it was named the number nine song of the year on the Hot 100.

1995 - "Before You Walk Out Of My Life"

In 1995, Monica released "Before You Walk Out of My Life" and "Like This and Like That" as a double sided single from her debut album, Miss Thang. Her debut single "Don't Take It Personal" and "Before You Walk Out of My Life" both hit number one, making 14-year-old Monica the youngest recording act to ever have two consecutive chart-topping hits on the Billboard Top R&B Singles chart.
