Family Matters:
Marcus "Pleasure P" Cooper was raised in South Florida. He is the son of talent manager Joseph "Blue" Smith, CEO of the Bluestar Entertainment International label. Pleasure also has three half-brothers in the music industry: Corey "Slick'em" Mathis, Diamond "Baby Blue" Smith and "Spectacular" Blue Smith, all of whom are rappers. Although Joe Smith is the father of all four, only Spectacular and Baby Blue have the same mother. All four brothers were born between 1984 and 1986.
Pretty Ricky:
In 2007, Pleasure and his brothers began performing as a music group, with P being the quartet's only singer. According to a 2005 story in the groups hometown newspaper, the Miami Herald, the brothers originally called themselves Pretty Rickie and the Maverix, until the country group the Mavericks objected, and the group shortened it's name to Pretty Ricky. In the mid-2000s, the group began to create a buzz locally in South Florida, which led to their receiving a distribution deal with Atlantic Records. Their debut album, Bluestars, which was known for it's sexually charged songs, was released in May 2005. It generated three singles, with the most successful being "Grind with Me," which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.
Going Solo:
In 2007, Pleasure P. split with Pretty Ricky; the exact circumstances are unclear. Some in his camp has said he left to focus on a solo career in R&B, while the members of the group say he was thrown out. In June 2008, Pleasure released his debut single as a solo artist, "Did You Wrong" which reached the top 20 on the R&B songs chart. His first album, The Introduction of Marcus Cooper was released through Atlantic Recors in June 2009, and spawned two top 10 singles, "Boyfriend #2" and "Under." The album was eventually nominated for two 2010 Grammys: one for Best R&B Album and one for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, for "Under." He lost to Maxwell in both categories, however. After leaving Atlantic Records for eOne (aka E1) Music, he released his sophomore album, Marcus Cooper, in October 2012.
Molestation Accusations:
On Dec. 2, 2009, a person or people generated claims online that P was involved in a 2006 child molestation case. According to various reports, Pleasure was convicted of child molestation and had a restraining order against him. As "proof," the accusers posted alleged legal documents regarding the case. The following day, the singer issued a statement completely denying that he was ever arrested, charged or convicted in any molestation case. Nothing ever came of the accusations, which happened to come the same day that his debut album was nominated for two Grammy awards.

Notable Quote:
"All of the recent rumors and accusations that are being circulated about me are 100 percent false. They are disgusting and vile; and they are being spread by individuals with their own sick agendas. For someone to go to such depths to assassinate my character and slander my good name is truly criminal." -- Pleasure P., in a written statement on Dec. 3, 2009, regarding child molestation allegations circulated about him online.
