In a September 2010 interview, Beyonce said her fourth album would be inspired by a diverse mix of music she'd been listening to, including Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill,'70s R&B group The Stylistics and Afrobeat star Fela Kuti. "I'm mixing every type of genre that I love and I'm inspired by every type of genre. ... It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music," she said.
