Who is Eric Roberson?

Born & Raised:

Born: Sept. 25, 1976.
Raised in Rahway, New Jersey.
Nickname: Erro.

Early Life:

Eric Roberson grew up in New Jersey, where he was bitten by the entertainment bug at age 5, thanks to tagging along while his older sister took vocal lessons. It was mainly acting that he was interested in at first, and in high school he performed in musical theatre pieces like "Grease" and "The Tap Dance Kid." In 1990 at age 16, he won a scholarship to Howard University in Washington, DC, where he continued studying theatre and performing in musicals and plays. He eventually landed a songwriting deal through the EMI label and collaborated with other R&B/Soul artists, including Jill Scott and Musiq Soulchild.

Music Career:

In 2001, his debut album, the soulful The Esoteric Movement, was released as a limited edition CD. During this time, he was also a songwriter with A Touch of Jazz, DJ Jazzy Jeff's production company. Between 2003 and 2007, he released five neo-Soul albums, during which he began to be sometimes called the nickname Erro, a combination of the first two letters of his first and last names. Over the years, his albums have featured guest vocals by critically-acclaimed artists like Algebra Blessett, Lalah Hathaway, Marsha Ambrosius and Raheem DeVaughn, all of whom share a similar Soul and neo-Soul style with Eric.

Notable Quote:

"I just had a fortunate opportunity of being in a musical, artistic household. In some form or fashion, everybody was doing something creative. My father sang and played guitar, I mean there was a guitar in every single room. There was a guitar in the bathroom, a guitar in the kitchen, everywhere you went there was a guitar." -- Eric Roberson to soulmusic.com, 2009.
