Summer 2011 R&B/Soul Concert Tours

Live and Direct ...

By

As the old song goes, "summer's here and the time is right for dancing in the streets." Or if not the streets, in the aisles and in your seats. It's summer 2011, and if you're looking to hear some great live music from the likes of Sade, R. Kelly, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild and others, check out our list of some of the top R&B/Soul concert tours happening in North America from June through September.

1. Sade and John Legend

Sade is touring this summer in support of the group's latest studio album, Soldier of Love, and their recently released best-of CD, The Ultimate Collection, which was released on May 3. The tour, which begins June 16 in Baltimore, is scheduled to visit about 40 cities in the U.S. and Canada. The opening act, or "special guest," as he's referred to in tour promotional language, is R&B/Soul crooner John Legend. Click the More Info link for full details.

2. R. Kelly, Keyshia Cole and Marsha Ambrosius

The Pied Piper of R&B is hitting the road for his "Love Letter" tour, and he's bringing with him a couple of opening acts popular enough to be headliners themselves. Kelly, Keyshia Cole and Marsha Ambrosius hit the road June 2 in Mississippi and travel the U.S. for about a month. The full schedule is available via the More Info link.

3. Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton and Mint Condition

Jilly from Philly is going out on a several week tour of the U.S. beginning in late July. The venues haven't been announced yet, but as of right now, her "Summer Block Party" tour is expected to hit at least 16 cities. The full schedule can be seen via the More Info link below.

4. Rihanna

Rihanna's "Loud" tour, which features opening act Cee-Lo Green, opens June 4 in Baltimore, less than two weeks before Sade and John Legend begin their North American tour in the same city. But Rihanna's tour is just a summer one, though; she'll travel the U.S. and Canada through December.

5. Brian McKnight

Brian McKnight's "Just Me" tour, which is in support of his album of semi-new material that's coming out in July, kicked off April 9 in Las Vegas, and is currently scheduled to last through mid-September. The tour will be a family affair: joining B. Mac as opening acts will be his brother, Claude McKnight III and two of Brian's sons, who make up the group BRKN RBTZ (Broken Robotz). The full tour schedule is available via the More Info link.

6. Adele

Adele's spring/summer North American tour kicked off back in May and is already a little more than halfway over as this is being written. But she's still on the road touring the West Coast and part of the south until late June.

7. Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae

Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae launched their "Hooligans in Wondaland" tour in early May and the jaunt continues to hit small and medium-sized venues throughout North America until mid-June. The opening acts are Soul crooner (and Buddy Holly lookalike) Mayer Hawthorne, plus English singer-rapper Plan B.

8. Musiq Soulchild

After opening up for Kem on the "Intimacy" tour last spring, Musiq Soulchild headed out on his own for a short headlining tour that starts June 10. The opening act on some shows will be Bobby V.

9. Earth, Wind & Fire

The legendary Earth, Wind & Fire are on a world tour throughout much of 2011, beginning with a June 1 date in Los Angeles. Click the More Info link for full details from the band's official website.

10. Men of Soul

The "Men of Soul" tour, which features Jeffrey Osborne, Peabo Bryson, Freddie Jackson and Howard Hewitt, kicked off in late summer 2010 and is still going strong. A handful of shows are scheduled for June and July before things wind down in September.
