Mark Edward Nero is a Los Angeles-area journalist and music critic who has written for numerous publications during his decade-plus career. He's also a longtime R&B fan and an amateur musician who dabbles in the acoustic guitar, piano and harmonica.

Mark has been a professional journalist since 1995 and a music critic since 1996. He has written for numerous publications both within and outside the U.S., and has interviewed dozens of recording artists, including R. Kelly, Babyface, Donell Jones, Mya, Brian McKnight and Raheem DeVaughn. Prior to his work with About.com, Mark's "Rhythm Republic" music column ran on the third Thursday of every month in The San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper. His work has also appeared in the Los Angeles Daily News, The Boston Globe, Pasadena Star-News and other publications.
