As well all know, sometimes the most talented artists don't always get the shine or acclaim they properly deserve. And one artist who's definitely in that category in the opinion of yours truly is Soul singer Alice Russell. Alice, for those who aren't familiar with her, is a native of Suffolk, England, but has a rich, warm voice that sounds like it could have come straight out of 1960s Detroit or 1970s Memphis. Over the course of her career, she's released four studio albums so far, as well as a two-disc collection of remixes. And her collaborative album with producer Quantic and the Combo Barbaro, Look Around the Corner, was easily one the the better R&B/Soul releases of 2012. Now she's back with new solo music, and here's a sample: a Soul-drenched tune called "Heartbreaker," which as the title suggests, is about a bad relationship. Here's how Alice explained it in a recent interview:
"It is a broken hearted love song about the end of a relationship," she said. "it's about that time when you're just emotionally exhausted, you know you just have to let it go, you are resigned to it all being over."
The song is the first single from her upcoming fifth studio album, To Dust, which is expected to drop in February 2013 via the Tru Thoughts music label. The song can be streamed via the Tru Thoughts soundcloud page; links to it and to the crazy/funny video for the song are included below.
