Over the past decade, Great Britain has gained a reputation for generating great soulful singers, including Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse and Adele. Few of the artists, however, have been male. A notable exception however, is England native Jamie Lidell, a techno-electronic music artist whose vocal style has evolved to the point where he's been compared to the likes of Marvin Gaye and Sly & the Family Stone. Although he still isn't quite a music superstar in the United States, he's developed a growing following ever since the release of his 2005 album, Multiply. His latest release, which is self-titled and will be the follow-up to his 2010 album, Compass, is due out in February 2013. And in conjunction with that, Jamie's just announced that he'll be going on a world tour shortly thereafter in support of the album. The global jaunt's scheduled to kick off March 8 in London and travel through much of Europe and the States (plus a couple of shows in Canada) before coming to a halt in Philadelphia in April.
"I'm revving up the boxes to push more buttons than your average electronic bear," he was quoted by his label, Warp Records, as saying about the upcoming tour. "Bringing the burning machine funk back to the floor so you can get your dance on. Digging into that bag of hooks so you can get your sing on."
Jamie's new self-titled album is due out on Warp Records Feb. 19, 2013 in the U.S. and is led by the first single, "What a Shame," which for now can be downloaded for free at his official website, jamielidell.com. The full schedule for the Spring 2013 tour as it's currently planned is included below. For the most up-to-date info and for ticket prices and more, visit Jamie's page at ticketmaster.com.
