As you may know if you've seen the About R&B/Soul list of new music releases for November 2012, R&B-pop music superstar Alicia Keys has a new album called Girl on Fire dropping later this month. A couple of other songs from it have been already seen the light of day, but this latest single differs dramatically from the first two. Unlike the bombastic "New Day" and the explosive title track, this latest song isn't an uptempo anthem, it's a quiet, tender ballad. On the piano-laced "Brand New Me," Alicia sings about growing and maturing to the point where she's her own woman and a domineering, controlling person no longer has a hold of her mind, heart and soul.
"It's been awhile, I'm not who I was before/You look surprised your words don't burn me anymore/Been meaning to tell ya, but I guess it's plain to see/Don't be mad, it's just a brand-new kinda me," she sings. "Can't be bad, I've found a brand-new kinda free."
Although the song couldn't be more different from the album's title track when it comes to tone and mood, the two songs share a theme of self-empowerment and independence. Girl On Fire will be in stores Nov. 27, 2012 via RCA Records, but for now, you can stream the latest single via the link below.
