Congrats are in order for pop-R&B singer-songwriter Sevyn Streeter, who recently signed an artist deal with Atlantic Records. Sevyn's name might be new to most people outside the music industry, but she's been an in-demand writer and vocalist for years and in the past has worked with such accomplished producers as Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, Babyface and Polow da Don, among others. She's also written material for Kelly Rowland, Chris Brown and Mary J. Blige, and has other artists, such as Alicia Keys, Trey Songz and Brandy praising her skills as an artist and character as a person. And after paying her dues behind the scenes, Sevyn is about to step into the spotlight as a solo performer. She's currently working on her Atlantic debut album, which the label describes as "a bright and brazen mix of pop, soul, hip-hop, and R&B, spiced by her characteristic gospel-inspired vocals and knack for irrepressible hooks and harmonies." The first taste of what to expect for the album is the first single, "I Like It," an uptempo jam about a feuding couple that can't live with each other, but can't live without each other. "Yeah, it's crazy, but it's in the name of love," she sings. The frenetic, off-kilter production kinds of overshadows the vocals on this particular track, but even with all the extra sonic layering it's easy to tell that Sevyn's got a clear, powerful voice that demands to be heard. No word yet on when her currently-untitled debut album's expected out, but for now, you can stream "I Like It" via the link below.
