If you hadn't heard, R&B-pop superstar†Alicia Keys has a new album called Girl On Fire coming out later this fall, and she's already released one song from it, "New Day." Or to be more accurate, it's a 50 Cent song featuring both Alicia and Dr. Dre, but there's also a†solo version by Alicia that's expected to appear on her album. But I digress. Anyway, the first official single from the album's just been released, and it's the title track. And Alicia didn't just make one version of the song, there's actually three. First are the original and "Blue Light" versions, which evoke memories of other mid-tempo songs by her like "You Don't Know My Name" and "No One." But the third rendition, the "Inferno" version, is an uptempo hip-hop track featuring Nicki Minaj. But despite the differences in structure and tempo on each version, Alicia's words and the theme of empowerment are constant on each song. A sample of the lyrics:
"We got our feet on the ground, And we're burning it down, Oh, got our head in the clouds, And we're not coming down, This girl is on fire, Everybody stands, as she goes by, Cause they can see the flame that's in her eyes, Watch her when she's lighting up the night."
Alicia's scheduled to drop the new album Nov. 27, 2012 and she performs the new single at the 2012 MTV awards tomorrow, Sept. 6. But you don't have to wait until then to hear "Girl on Fire," of course. Although the original version won't be made available until later in the week, you can stream both the "Blue Light" and "Inferno" versions via the links below.
