Some of the more interesting R&B music-related news and rumors from the past week:

  • Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, is dismissing reports that she was kidnapped, held against her will and/or had a stroke. Also, her lawyer says that Katherine will file for joint guardianship of Michael's kids, who were recently placed under the care of Michael's nephew, TJ.
  • Meshell Ndegeocello's next release, Pour Une Ame Souveraine, which is French for "For a Sovereign Soul," will be an album of remakes of Nina Simone songs. The first single, a cover of "Be My Husband," was just released.
  • Rumor has it that Toni Braxton is under consideration to become the fourth judge on "American Idol," where she would join recently-announced judge Mariah Carey.
  • Miguel will release his second album, Kaleidoscope Dream, in October. The album will be preceded by two three-song digital EPs, which drop July 31 and Sept. 11.
  • Irish R&B singer Laura Izibor will release a new EP, The Brooklyn Sessions Vol. I, on Aug 7. The EP was recorded at Electrik Indigo Studios in Brooklyn, NY.
  • A stream of the soundtrack for the upcoming remake of the movie Sparkle, which features Whitney Houston, Cee-Lo Green and others, is now online.
  • 1990s R&B quartet En Vogue, which once broke up and got back together, is apparently having difficulties getting along again.
  • Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Anthony David has just released the second single from his next album, Love Out Loud.
  • Is Maxwell dating Jennifer Williams of the reality show "Basketball Wives?"
  • Did Chris Brown diss Frank Ocean with an anti-gay slur?
