If you've seen the about.com list of new R&B/Soul releases for June 2012, you know that a new Jill Scott project, Crates: Remix Fundamentals, Vol. 1, is due out June 26, 2012. But to be honest, that description isn't completely accurate. First, although it carries Jill's name, this compilation of remixes of 11 of her songs is actually a showcase for the skills of the various DJs who contributed to the project, including Ron Trent, Ca$e Boogie and Will Smith's homie, Jazzy Jeff. Second, this is more of a Dance music album, rather than an R&B or Soul one. All the mixes here are expressly made for play in the club or for grooving out to. That being said, there's still plenty of Soul shining through in Jill's vocals. A review of the full album will be posted right here the day of it's release, but in the meantime, the album's main creative force, Miles High Productions, has posted four of the 11 reconfigured songs online for your listening pleasure. The dance mixes of "Can't Explain," "Whatever," "Spring Summer Feeling" and "Come See Me" can be streamed together or separately via the link below.
