Singer-rapper Teyana Taylor's only 21 years old, but she's already very aware that the music industry is very much a business. Teyana was released from her contract with Star Trak/Interscope Records earlier this year after eight years with the label. The relationship hadn't been particularly successful or productive: she had one minor hit to show for it, 2008's "Google Me," and an album, From a Planet Called Harlem, that went nowhere when it dropped when she was 17. The bright side is now that she's between labels, she's free to put out her own music without limitations or restrictions, and she's taking the opportunity to do just that. This week, she self-released a free mixtape of all-new music called The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor. The mixtape, which features 12 full songs and three interludes, is partially inspired by Lauryn Hill's classic The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and features cameo appearances by the rappers Wale and Jadakiss, among others. The full mixtape can be streamed or downloaded at datpiff.com. A link's included below.
