D'Angelo won two Grammy Awards on February 15, 2016

Born February 11, 1974 in Richmond, Virginia. D'Angelo is a four-time Grammy Award winner with 12 additional Grammy nominations. His 1995 debut solo album, Brown Sugar, was certified double platinum and earned three Grammy Awards nominations, including Best R&B Album. With his instant success, he was heralded as one of the leaders of the "Neo-Soul" movement along with Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Maxwell. D'Angelo's second CD, Voodoo in 2000, earned Grammys for Best R&B Album, and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for the single, "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" Then he took a 14 year hiatus until releasing his third CD, Black Messiah, in 2014. On February 15, 2016, it won a Grammy for Best R&B Album, and the single, "Really Love," won Best R&B Song.

2000 - "Untitled (How Does It Feel)"

D'Angelo's "Untitled (How Does it Feel)," which he wrote and produced with Raphael Saadiq, won a Grammy Award in 2001 for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and was also nominated for Best R&B Song. It was recorded for his Voodoo CD which won a Grammy for Best R&B Album.

The "Untitled" video suddenly thrust D'Angelo into the role of sex symbol, as he appeared naked in the highly erotic clip which was shot from the hips up. It earned three nominations for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards: Video of the Year, Best R&B Video, and Best Male Video.

2014 - "Really Love"

After a 14 year hiatus, D'Angelo made a major comeback in 2014 with the release of his Black Messiah CD. It won a Grammy for Best R&B Album, and was nominated for Album of the Year. The  single "Really Love" was voted Best R&B Song, and was also nominated for Record of the Year.

"Lady," the third single form D'Angelo's 1996 debut Brown Sugar album, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Brown Sugar was also nominated for Best R&B Album. Composed and produced by D'Angelo and Raphael Saadiq, "Lady" peaked at number two on the Billboard R&B chart, and number ten on the Hot 100.

D'Angelo first solo single, the title tune of his 1995 debut Brown Sugar album, received Grammy Awards nominations for Best R&B Song, and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. The song reached number five on the Billboard R&B chart.

1996 - "Cruisin'"

For the second single from his 1995 Brown Sugar album, D'Angelo recorded a cover version of the 1979 Smokey Robinson classic, "Cruisin'." The song peaked at number ten on the Billboard R&B chart.

1999 - "Nothing Even Matters" with Lauryn Hill

D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for their duet 1998 "Nothing Even Matters." It was included on the historic The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. In 1991, Hill won five Grammy Awards for the album, which set a record at the time for the most Grammys won by a female in one night.

2002 - "Be Here" with Raphael Saadiq

1994 - "U Will Know" (as a part of Black Men United)

D'Angelo recorded first hit single, "U Will Know" with the group Black Men United featuring Usher, R. Kelly, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight,  and Gerald Levert. He co-wrote and co-produced the song for the soundtrack of the 1994 movie Jason's Lyric  "U Will Know" peaked at number five on the Billboard R&B chart, and number 28 on the Hot 100. D'Angelo served as choir director for a performance of the song on the Soul Train Music Awards,
