Album Review: Maxwell - BLACKsummers'night
It was a long eight years between Maxwell's third studio album, Now and his fourth one, BLACKsummers'night (released in the U.S. on July 7, 2009), but the good news for his loyal fans is that the musical drought was worth the wait. It may or may not go down in history as one of Maxwell's best albums, but BLACKsummers'night is easily and by far one of the best albums of the year. Everything that his fans have come to love about Maxwell - his delicate vocals, his lush song arrangements, his talent for songwriting - are all still fully intact. Was on the fence about purchasing the album. I was def one of the fans who has built up high expectations, but with an accolade of this being one of the best albums of this year, I can’t help but to dish out the $10. I am a little disappointed with the number of songs.
easily, best album of 2009 already.
Playing Possumc fistfull of tears and offcourse Pretty Wings, are the standing out tracks, though each track are also outstanding.
This is just real soul, I also love the songwriting
. That’s how R&B/soul should be
Don’t like to judge whether a CD is worth the wait, artists do what they do when they’re ready. I’m just happy to have new Maxwell music, and there isn’t a song on this CD I skip. Some complain about the instrumental taking a spot, but, it merely shows how much talent Maxwell has.
