"Green Light," the first single from John Legend's latest album, Evolver, was a big departure for the usually smooth crooner. It was an upbeat pop song with a hip-hop twist. But the album's second single is a lot more along the lines of what people had come to expect from his previous albums. "Everybody Knows" is a soft, tender ballad about a broken-hearted man still hurting emotionally after his former lover has found someone new. "But I wish you the best ... I guess," he sings. While "Green Light" was an obvious attempt to reach out to young clubgoers, the release of "Everybody Knows" as a single is a message that Legend hasn't abandoned his core audience of sophisticated music fans.
