Some of the more interesting news and rumors from the past week:
- Janet Jackson on Sept. 22 announced her departure from Island Def Jam after just 14 months on the label. According to her publicist, the label agreed to dissolve their relationship at Janet's request.
- Hidden Beach Recordings has put together a compilation album in support of Barack Obama. Among the featured artists: Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, John Legend and Lionel Richie.
- Ne-Yo's Year of the Gentleman debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard albums chart with 250,000 copies sold. No. 1 for the second week was the new Metallica album.
- Maxwell has added shows in Toronto, New York, Oakland, Houston and Washington, D.C. to his upcoming fall tour.
- Keyshia Cole is in the studio working on a new album called Love. It might be out by the end of 2008.
- Akon has a new album called Freedom coming out in November.
- Babyface and his girlfriend Nicole had a baby girl last week.
