Sunday August 10, 2008
The deep, velvety voice of R&B/Soul/Funk legend Isaac Hayes has been silenced. Hayes, 65, was pronounced dead earlier today, Sun. Aug. 10 after he was found unresponsive next to a treadmill at his home in Memphis. Isaac, who was elected to the Rock & Roll Hame of Fame in 2002, was best known by older fans for the theme to the 1971 film Shaft. He was also known to a younger generation for his role as the voice of the character Chef on the animated Comedy Cental series South Park. Hayes just wrapped up a role in a new movie, Soul Man, which also starred Bernie Mac, who coincidentally died yesterday of pneumonia. Isaac reportedly had 12 children, including a young son, Nana Kwadjo Hayes, who was born in 2006. Rest in peace, Isaac. See the below articles for more information.
