Al Green & John Legend: "Stay With Me (By the Sea)"

Wednesday July 9, 2008
Al Green - Lay It DownJohn Legend obviously has a great singing voice, but for some reason his vocal style doesn't really mesh well with those of other singers most of the time, no matter how great they are. John has dueted with Mary J. Blige, Estelle, Corinne Bailey Rae and others in the past, but only in a couple of instances have his lounge singer-style vocals been compatible with those of his duet partner. Fortunately one of those occasions is on "Stay With Me (By the Sea)," a ballad on Al Green's latest album, Lay It Down, which came out back in May. In my humble opinion the song isn't as great as "Take Your Time," Al's duet with Corinne Bailey Rae on the same album, but it's definitely above-average for a Legend duet.
