New R&B Albums: May 2008 List
May 2008 is a huge month for R&B due to one album, Usher's Here I Am, which is the follow-up to his massively successful 2004 album, Confessions. Here I Am will be one of the biggest - if not the biggest album of the year, sales-wise. But there's plenty of other notable music coming out in May, including the latest from such veterans as Mint Condition, Keith Sweat and Donna Summer. The sleeper hit of the month though, just might turn out to be Lay It Down, the latest all-new album from Al Green, which has guest vocals by John Legend, Anthony Hamilton and Corinne Bailey Rae, plus production by ?uestlove of hip-hop band The Roots. its refreshing to know that established artists and groups such as mint condition, keith sweat and donna summers can deliver when today’s mainstream artists cannot. can u put it down to experience? or lack of commerical success? or is it simply adapting to the times but not forgetting where u came from. i checked out the new donna summers and its crazy. very solid and balanced album. im definitely liking mr. music, slide backwards, sand on my feet, bring down the reign, be myself again. she dropped at a real good time seeing disco is coming back. im hoping more and more 80s-90s artists return to show how its really supposed to be done.
