Music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has a new protégé, and he seems to be more excited about her than he has been about almost any artist since B.I.G. was alive. This is what Diddy told a packed house at Blender Theater in New York last month when first introducing
Janelle Monae, the newest artist on the Bad Boy Records roster: "This is possibly the most important signing of my career. I thank God for blessing me with an artist like Janelle Monae."
Wow - no pressure, right? Janelle, who's signed to Bad Boy via her own imprint, Wondaland Arts Society, is set to re-release her
Metropolis Suite EP in June, and then her solo debut album,
Metropolis, comes out in September. By the way, I'm going to go see Janelle perform on May 6 at the Key Club in L.A. I'll report back afterward and let you know if she's the real deal or not. In the meantime, you can click a link below to stream her Bad Boy debut single, "Many Moons," which is quirky, creative and catchy: kinda like a solo female version of OutKast.

I’m loving this! Female Outkast indeed!
Wow! I just love this! I loved Violet Stars Happy Hunting! But this is even better! I hope Puff lets her do her thang! Cuz music needs this…
Diddy really does not deserve to have such a seasoned and eclectic artists on his label. I was really hurting inside when I found out she signed with Bad Boy… even though she promised that the creativity and vision she has will not change.
You are in for a treat though Nero… I saw her at Spotlight live in ny a couple months ago and she is amazing… breath-taking… I have not seen a 1 woman show as innovative as hers in a really long time. She demands the attention from the audience and although very petite engages you like no other.
I’m inda upset though that they are re-releasing her EP since I alreay have it in june rather than just going ahead and dropping the new album… I really want some new records from her… but I guess I can wait until sept.
