New Music: Noel Gourdin - "The River"

Wednesday March 26, 2008
Noel Gourdin - RiverWhen it comes to cities known for their old-school Soul music, there are a few around the U.S that come to mind - Memphis and Detroit, for sure. Maybe Philadelphia. Possibly New Orleans. But Brockton, Massachusetts? No, not hardly. But Brockton is about to get some shine - or to be more accurate, one of Brockton's most talented native sons is about to get some shine. If you don't know Noel Gourdin and you're a Soul music fan, get to know him: dude is the truth. Noel, 24, grew up singing in church, writing his own songs and spending summers with his grandparents in Mississippi. Now, fast forward to today: Noel is signed to Sony Urban/Epic Records and is set to drop his debut album sometime during the summer of 2008. The first single is the soulful, spiritual track "River," which has already become one of your R&B Guide's favorite songs of the year. You can listen to it for yourself by clicking on a link below.

I just listened to “One Love” on Noel’s MySpace. It’s tight, but that song “You’re The One” is the jam of jams.

Sorry Vici, but the site’s moderation software doesn’t allow profanity, so I had to edit that s-word comment. S’all good, though. Anyway, Epic Records hasn’t given a release date (or even a name) for Noel’s album, yet. All they’re saying is that it’s coming out in “Summer ‘08.”

The song is a wonderful spiritual filled song. The River indicates that the soul has been washed and the person has revealed a new life. I will add this song to my song collection and drop it to my friends.

yeah…Noel has some GREAT songs on the album, hope everyone goes and supports it..not just download it..

And show the music industry that we “DONT” want to hear the same 18 year old singers…we want soul music,….and we’ll pay for it!!!

(14) Morris says:

Yes, indeed!! I first heard this song at the end of the movie “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins” and I can’t get it out of my head!! To be so young with such a soulful voice is incredible. This young man has a very bright and promising career!! And to be singing about a spiritual theme, only adds to the beauty of the song. In a time when it seems all the “music” is about making money, big booties and selling drugs, this is totally refreshing!!
Young Man, keep up the good work!
