Album Review: Keyshia Cole - Just Like You
Thursday September 20, 2007
On Keyshia Cole's sophomore album, Just Like You, the Oakland-raised singer shows that the success of her debut album, The Way It Is, wasn't just a fluke and she's not just a one-album wonder. And although most of the attention she attracts is due to her voice and looks, it's actually her songwriting that's head and shoulders above everything else on her sophomore album. And although Just Like You won't be officially released in the U.S. until Tues., Sept. 25, you can check out your Guide to R&B's analysis of it by clicking here.

I ACTUALLY DISAGREE I LIKE THAT SHE SWITCH IT UP ON THIS ALBUM WITH MORE SLOWER TRACKS LIKE “I REMEMBER” & “WORK IT OUT”. IT SHOWS VERSATILITY COMPARED TO HER LAST WHICH WAS STRONG, AGRESSIVE, UPTEMPO’S. MY PROBLEM WITH HER ALBUM IS THAT IS MOSTLY IN THE SAME AREA OF RELATIONSHIP BREAKUP, ITS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF “JUST LIKE YOU” THE SONGS R MOSTLY ABOUT BREAKING UP,PREPARING FOR A BREAKUP, OR MOURNING, OR HAPPY OVER A BREAKUP….SHE NEEDS TO EXPAND HER CONCEPTS.
I like that she switched it up, too; I just don’t think that her ballads are are stong as her uptempo songs. I completely agree that she needs to expand her concepts, but that will probably come in time, as she ages & goes through more experiences in life.
I totally agree with you both. But, did yall notice that her voice is 100% better?? I did, she can hold long notes and she sounds different on other songs. I’m glad she took voice lessons, because she needed them. But, I love this album, she did great. This proves that she will be her longer than we thought.
Yeah, Keyshia used to get by on raw talent, but it’s nice to hear that she’s actually refining that talent more. Ol’ girl’s vocal ability is a work in progress, but she’ll continue to get better with each album, hopefully.
