Some of the more interesting news and rumors from the past week:
  • To the surprise of almost no one, R. Kelly's new release, Double Up, debuted at No. 1 on this week's Billboard album chart, selling about 386,000 copies during its first week in stores.
  • Tony Thompson, lead singer for the '90s R&B group Hi-Five - best known for the song "I Like the Way (the Kissing Game)" - died of an apparent drug overdose in Texas.
  • R&B singer (and porn star) Ray J. says he not only wants to be the mayor of his hometown of Carson, Calif., but he also wants to run for President of the United States.
  • Akon is in hot water for picking up a 15-year-old fan onstage at a concert and then throwing him into the crowd.
  • Ciara and T.I. are the headling acts for this year's Scream Tour, which is being called Screamfest '07.
  • Chris Brown says he may do a duet with Michael Jackson and that he wants to be "the R&B 2Pac."
  • Sirius satellite radio will have exclusive Black Music Month programming throughout June.
