Gerald Levert's Ten Greatest Hits

Born July 13, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio, Gerald Levert followed in the footsteps of his father Eddie Levert, lead singer of The O'Jays. During his 31 year recording career, he performed as the lead singer of the group Levert (including his brother Sean Levert), as a member of the trio LSG (featuring Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill), and a solo artist. Levert recorded eight number one hits on the Billboard R&B charts, including "Baby Hold On To Me" with his father. Gerald released two duet albums with his Eddie Levert, and he also substituted for his dad when his father was ill and not able to tour with The O'Jays.

Levert composed and produced songs for several artists including Barry White, Anita Baker, Teddy Pendergrass, Stephanie Mills, Freddie Jackson, James Ingram, The Winans, and The O'jays. He also recorded with Chaka Khan, Teena Marie, Yolanda Adams, and Miki Howard.

Gerald Levert passed away November 10, 2006 at the age of 40. His death was ruled accidental and was due to acute intoxication, caused by a combination of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

1987 - "Casanova"

In 1988, "Casanova" by the group Levert won a Soul Train Music Award for Favorite Band, Duo or Group Single. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group, and for an American Music Award for Favorite R&B/Soul Single.

1997 - "My Body"

The first single released by the trip LSG (Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat, and Johnny Gill) remained at the top of the Billboard R&B chart for seven weeks in 1997. From the Levert.Sweat.Gill album, the song was certified platinum and peaked at number four on the Hot 100.

"(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind" became the group Levert's first number one single on the Billboard R&B chart in 1986. It was released from their second album, Bloodline.

1988 - "Just Coolin'"

The title song of Levert's fourth album, Just Coolin', reached the top of the Billboard R&B chart in 1988. Featuring rapper Heavy D.,  it was the group's fourth number one single.

One of Gerald Levert's greatest thrills was hitting the top of the Billboard R&B chart in 1992 with "Baby Hold On To Me," his duet with his father, Eddie Levert of The O'Jays. From Gerald's 1991 debut solo album Private Line, it became his first Top 40 single on the Hot 100, peaking at number 37.
