"Hurricane Song" Revisited

Tuesday August 22, 2006
In the weeks after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in August 2005, a young R&B singer named Allen Watty released a tune called "Hurricane Song," a touching first-person story about a disaster victim stranded for days on a rooftop in the hurricane's aftermath: "Then it hit me: ain't nobody comin' to get me, no one feels my pain," he sings during the song. Well, with the first anniversary of Katrina upon us, "Hurricane Song" has been re-released and is available as a free download at the newly relaunched hurricanesong.com. Also on the site is a new, powerful slideshow of victims caught in the midst of the disaster.

(1) Paulette says:

The words to this song are so moving. Tears were brought back to my eyes as my memory relived the horror of Hurricane Katrina through the words as well as seeing the pictures. The elderly woman with the American Flag wrapped around her speaks volumns as did the picture of the raising of Our Flag on Iwo Jima. This too shall be remembered and may we learn from this so No One in America all the World has to endure this ever again, Let us Be More Prepared.
