New Music Week: Tuesday - John Legend
Tuesday August 15, 2006
If you thought that after achieving mainstream success John Legend was going to start tailoring his sound to contemporary popular tastes, think again. His new single, "Save Room," goes against the grain of what's popular in R&B music today. It's a slow-burning, sophisticated song that's the lead single from Legend's sophomore album, Once Again, which is slated for a fall release. And in the humble opinion of your Guide to R&B, it's a great song, which is why it's part of About R&B's New Music Week. To stream John Legend's "Save Room," just click the appropriate link below.

I’m trying to figure out the name of the tune John Legend stole to start his “NEW SONG” ‘Save Room’. It’s reminiscent of an classic 60’s or 70’s tune, and it’s driving me nuts trying to remember the name. Please remind me. Thanks.
Neil, the sampled melody is from the song “Stormy,” by Classic IV. Legend’s “Save Room,” by the way, was co-produced by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas, who also co-produced “Ordinary People” on Legend’s first album.
This song is great!
First of all, the lyrics are monotonous. The music is CLEARLY the Classics IV, Stormy. The new-age, politically “correct” people call this “sampling.” Bull! It’s called STEALING people! Also the word “plagiarism” comes into mind, too. Okay, so he gives the songwriters of the original song credit – he had to otherwise he’d be in a lot of legal problems. Biggest problem: He continues to lie about the fact that he NEVER heard the original song before. Yeah, right! My pig’s coming in for a landing, I need to go tend to it!
