Even with a barely-played video, very little hype and, he says, virtually no support from his record label, Donell Jones still managed to debut atop the Billboard R&B chart for the first time in his career last month. The strong showing for his new album, Journey of a Gemini, was welcome news for Jones, who's weathered some pretty heavy personal and professional storms the past few years. In an exclusive interview with your Guide to R&B, Jones talks about many things, including those storms he weathered, his opinion of contemporary R&B, why he used outside producers on his new album and how a battle with alcoholism changed him.
