New Music: Lyfe Jennings
Thursday July 6, 2006
Morality tales are few and far between in contemporary R&B, but Lyfe Jennings has just released a very strong one in the song "S.E.X." The track, which also features vocals by Lyfe's protege, LaLa Brown, tells the story of the blossoming sexuality of a 17-year-old girl in a world full of older men who "just want relations, they don’t want relationships." As we mentioned last week, Lyfe's sophomore Columbia Records LP, The Phoenix, is due in stores Aug. 15. But in the meantime, check out the album's somber, thought-provoking first single.

I heard he put out the song because he had a lot of young girls coming up to him and trying to get at him. And it made him think and wonder…and ponder…and so this song came into play. I like it a lot and wish there were more positive songs out there instead of all the sexual songs for young girls to listen to.
